There are several ways to direct a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. If you own a domain and you have set up a website through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is very important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain name may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases further configuration may be needed with the other provider.
CNAME Records in Website Hosting
Creating a CNAME record through our Linux website hosting is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in only a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you many possibilities - if you set up a company website on our end, for instance, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to set up an Internet site through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it requires no more than a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will find a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter will be forwarded to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record in the account is equally simple and takes a click.
